UAE Corporate Tax Return Deadline for a 31 March Year-End: Why Yours Falls on 31 December 2026

In short

If your UAE business runs an April–March financial year, the corporate tax return deadline for a 31 March year-end is 31 December 2026 — nine months after year-end, not the 30 September date that applied to December year-ends. One date, two obligations: file the return and pay the tax due. It applies even in a loss year, and even under Small Business Relief.

The UAE corporate tax return deadline for a 31 March year-end is 31 December 2026 — nine months after the financial year closed, not the 30 September date you have seen quoted everywhere this autumn. That September date belonged to businesses whose tax period ended 31 December 2025. If your UAE company runs an April–March financial year, your clock is three months behind theirs, and the return for the year ended 31 March 2026 is due on the last day of this calendar year.

That gap is where companies get caught. A business with an India-aligned April–March year reads “UAE corporate tax deadline: 30 September” in the press, decides it does not apply, and files nothing away. The deadline that does apply to it is quieter, later, and just as hard.

What the UAE corporate tax return deadline for a 31 March year-end actually requires

The Federal Tax Authority sets one rule and lets your own financial year do the arithmetic: the corporate tax return must be filed, and any tax due paid, within nine months of the end of the tax period. There is no single national filing day — your tax period end sets your date.

Work it through for the common year-ends and the pattern is clear:

Financial year endsReturn & payment due
31 December 202530 September 2026
31 March 202631 December 2026
30 June 202631 March 2027

So the April–March business is not late and not early — it is on a different nine-month track from the December year-end companies that dominated the September headlines. For the year 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, nine months lands on 31 December 2026, a Thursday.

One thing this is not: it is not your “first” corporate tax return. UAE corporate tax applies to financial years beginning on or after 1 June 2023, so an April–March company’s first tax period was the year ended 31 March 2025, whose return fell due on 31 December 2025. The 31 December 2026 deadline is the one for the year just closed — check that the earlier one was actually filed before you turn to this one.

Three things March year-end businesses get wrong

You file even if you owe nothing. The obligation to file is not an obligation only profitable companies have. A loss-making year is filed. A year that sits entirely inside the 0% band is filed. A business claiming Small Business Relief still files — a simplified return, but a return. Exempt persons who were required to register still submit their annual declaration inside the same nine-month window. “We made no profit, so there is nothing to do” is the single most expensive assumption in UAE corporate tax, because the penalty for not filing does not care whether tax was due.

Filing and paying are two obligations with one date. Nine months is the deadline for the return and for the payment. Lodging the return on 31 December and settling the tax in January is a late payment, with its own consequence, even though the return itself was on time. Treat the date as a payment date, not just a submission date, and work backwards from it.

No return happens without registration first. Filing runs through EmaraTax, and you cannot file against a business that does not hold a corporate tax registration. If registration was deferred — common for newer entities, free-zone companies and holding structures — it has to be sorted out before the return can be lodged, not on the same evening. Registration is the gate; the return is what comes through it.

What to do between now and 31 December 2026

Start with the books. The return is built from financial statements, and the UAE expects those prepared under IFRS, with a lighter basis available for smaller businesses. If your UAE entity’s accounts are maintained informally, or reconciled only at the parent’s year-end, the gap between “management numbers” and “return-ready financials” is the work — and it is the part that does not compress into the last week.

A March year-end does not make the UAE corporate tax deadline softer — it moves it to 31 December and keeps every obligation the September filers had. File, pay and register against the date your own financial year sets, not the one in the headlines.

Then confirm three states: that the entity is registered and holds its registration number; that the prior-year return (for the year ended 31 March 2025) was filed; and that someone has run the tax calculation far enough ahead to know whether a payment is coming, so the cash is ready. EmaraTax is available around the clock, but a payment attempted on the last day can fail to clear in time, and a cleared bank transfer is what the deadline measures, not a submitted instruction.

For a group running an Indian parent on an April–March year and a UAE subsidiary on the same calendar, this is the deadline that tends to fall between two desks — the India finance team assumes the UAE advisor has it, the UAE side assumes the group does. It belongs to whoever owns the UAE entity’s numbers, and the time to assign it is now, not in December.

What is the UAE corporate tax return deadline for a financial year ending 31 March 2026?

31 December 2026. The return and any tax payable are both due within nine months of the end of the tax period, and nine months after 31 March 2026 is 31 December 2026 (a Thursday).

Why is my deadline not 30 September 2026 like the ones in the news?

30 September 2026 is the nine-month date for businesses whose tax period ended 31 December 2025. The deadline follows your own financial year-end, so an April–March business has until 31 December 2026, not September.

Do I have to file if my UAE company made a loss or owed no tax?

Yes. Filing is required regardless of income. Loss years, years within the 0% band and businesses claiming Small Business Relief all file; Small Business Relief filers submit a simplified return. Not filing carries a penalty even when no tax is due.

Is the 31 December 2026 return my first UAE corporate tax return?

Usually not. Corporate tax applies to financial years beginning on or after 1 June 2023, so an April–March company’s first tax period was the year ended 31 March 2025 (return due 31 December 2025). Confirm that earlier return was filed before working on this one.
